Spa Treatments
Why not invite trained therapists to Merrymeet to provide gorgeous beauty treatments and massages, without even needing to go out? Find out more. If you prefer going out, there’s a new spa is now open at Buxton, called the Buxton Crescent Spa.
Learn new skills
There are lots of providers who will visit Merrymeet to spend time teaching you new skills! How about Pole Dancing, Gin or Whisky Tasting, Dance… Give us a call to find out more!
Outdoor Activities
Archery, clay shooting, even axe throwing can be booked via Dandelion Events. They will bring everything you need to Merrymeet – just let them know you are staying here with Party Houses.
Off-site Activities
Walking
Merrymeet is the perfect location to enjoy the White Peak area of the Peak District. Famous for its stunning limestone valleys, you can walk directly from Merrymeet down into the Manifold Valley. Once there, this beautiful walk along the valley bottom has flat surfaces, so you can use pushchairs, wheelchairs and bicycles alike. For those wanting a longer hike, you can carry on to the famous Dovedale. For more ideas use the Ordnance Survey OL24 White Peak map.
Cycling
From local Waterhouses village you can hire a variety of bikes for exploring the Manifold Valley and beyond. This route is suitable for tiny tots and experienced cyclists alike, as it is mostly flat and car free.
There are also mountain bike routes for the more adventurous.
Climbing
For thrill-seekers, there is plenty to keep you busy. The famous Roaches rock faces are renowned amongst the climbing community as one of the best gritstone climbs in the UK. The BMC publishes the definitive climbing guidebook to The Roaches.
Horseriding
You can book Riding Lessons at Beaver Hall Equestrian Centre with BHS approved instructors in Bradnop, ST13 7EZ – just 4 miles from Merrymeet.
Caves
If you prefer exploring rocks underground, then the Peak District has plenty of caves, including Titan Cave, the highest in the country! There are many certified caving instructors locally.
Alternatively there are show caves which are easily accessed without the need for safety equipment! Examples include Speedwell Cavern (a boat trip through the caves), Peak Caver, Treak Cliff Cavern, Poole’s Cavern, or Heights of Abraham (accessed via a cable car!).
Alton Towers
It would be remiss not to mention Alton Towers, – just 8 miles away.
Gentle Pursuits
The local Peak Wildlife Park is a great day out for all ages and only 2 and half miles away.
Historic Houses
One of the best stately homes in the country is Chatsworth. It is always worth visiting!
There are plenty of other historic properties nearby including Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall (National Trust Museum of Childhood) and Haddon Hall.
Fabulous towns to mooch around
If you fancy a gentle stroll exploring independent shops, lovely teashops or pubs on the way – why not visit Leek, Ashbourne or Buxton? All within a short drive they are our local market towns, each with their own charm.
Famous gardens
World-famous gardens can be seen at Chatsworth or Biddulph Grange and the RHS holds Flowers Shows at Tatton Park and Chatsworth too!
Museums and Galleries
If rain is forecast, take a trip to one of the local galleries or museums and enjoy yourselves whilst staying dry! There are many locally including: Middleport Pottery (Home of TV’s Great Pottery Throwdown), Wedgewood Museum, Bakewell Old House Museum, Crich Tramway Museum, Eyam Museum (if you really want to hear about the plague right now!) and Leek Museum, to name a few.
